The Ayurveda Body Therapies are taught throughout the year in individual modules such as Abhyanga; Shirodhara; Five Sense Therapy; Pinda Swedana; Udavartana; and Marma Therapy. Some modules require a prerequisite of Basic Ayurveda knowledge. Some modules may be taken by licensed massage therapists for continuing education units.
Panchakarma
Panchakarma is only taught to those people who have had at least one year study of basic Ayurveda principles as it requires deeper knowledge of the doshas and the application of a variety of herbs. Panchakarma is more than just stringing individual therapies together. It requires that the practitioner has the ability to do a thorough intake and also has the ability to personalize the process. Panchakarma should not be the same for every person during every season.
Most of the teaching is done by Rima Shah and Jackie Hill, co-owners of Diva Ayurveda in Wisconsin. Rima and Jackie have extensive training and practice in the body therapies. Their practice is unique in that all treatments are done traditionally with two practitioners allowing the client to experience the full benefit of the treatments. They are also known for their ability to personalize the treatments and Panchakarma.
I have received more than 26 Panchakarma treatments over the past ten years, the latter half at Diva Ayurveda. I cannot say enough positive things about Diva Ayurveda. Jackie Hill, who manages the center, was the first certified Panchakarma practitioner in Wisconsin. She has a tender, healing touch. I also think of her as the Keeper of the Temple because she attends to the organization and beauty of the room in which treatments are given. Rima Shah is, bar none, the best ayurvedic diagnostician in Wisconsin. She is deeply gifted in this as well as in ayurvedic herbology. Together they are a very caring team motivated not by making money but by making Ayurveda as financially accessible to as many people as possible in the community. They are generous with their time. Most importantly, every day every aspect of the treatments is individualized to the person receiving them based on that person’s particularized needs. Rima and Jackie are authentic professional healers who serve for the sake of service and do so with integrity. There are none better in Wisconsin. I enthusiastically recommend them.
